ISNP Registration — IRDAI Insurance Self-Network Platform
An Insurance Self-Network Platform (ISNP) lets an insurer, broker, corporate agent or web aggregator sell and service policies through its own website or app. You apply to IRDAI on the ISNP portal with a non-refundable fee of ₹10,000 plus tax, then get 60 days to set up the platform and have it certified. We prepare the application and coordinate the certification.
What it is
An ISNP is your own online shop for insurance. Customers compare, buy and renew policies on a website or app that you own and run. You need IRDAI’s permission before you sell on it, and that permission is what people call ISNP registration.
The framework comes from IRDAI’s 2017 guidelines on insurance e-commerce. Applications are made on IRDAI’s ISNP portal, isnp.irda.gov.in, using the login of your existing IRDAI licence. Here is the catch: ISNP is not a licence to sell insurance. It is an add-on for an entity IRDAI has already licensed.
Picture a Faridabad corporate agent that sells motor and health cover through a branch counter. Customers keep asking to renew on their phones. With an ISNP, the same agent can put those policies on its own website and app, and keep the relationship it built.
Who it applies to
Insurers selling direct
Life, general and health insurers that want customers to buy straight from their own site or app.
Brokers and corporate agents
Licensed insurance brokers and registered corporate agents can set up an ISNP to sell the products of the insurers they work with.
Web aggregators
Registered insurance web aggregators can also apply. Tied agents of a single insurer cannot set up an ISNP.
Why it matters
Sell your current products online
All existing products can be sold on the platform. Insurers need not re-file a product with IRDAI unless its fundamental features change.
Keep the customer with you
The customer gets a quote, fills the proposal and pays on your platform. The records sit in your systems.
Launch with a certified platform
The platform is certified by a registered certification body before it goes live. Partner insurers and customers can see it has passed that check.

How it works
Confirm your licence qualifies
We confirm your IRDAI licence category allows an ISNP and that the licence is valid. In practice, a Gurugram insurtech with only a website and no licence starts one step earlier, with a broker, corporate agent or web aggregator application.
Create your ISNP portal login
You register on isnp.irda.gov.in with your existing licence details and receive login credentials by email.
File the proposal with the fee
We fill the online form, generate the PDF and submit the proposal with the ₹10,000 non-refundable fee plus tax.
Build and certify within 60 days
Once IRDAI accepts the proposal, you get 60 days to set up the platform and have it certified by a registered certification body. Your IT team or vendor builds it. We track the checklist.
Go live and stay compliant
After certification you start selling. We keep the licence, renewals and reporting in order alongside your other compliance and accounting work.
Timelines
60 days to set up and certify
After the proposal is accepted, you have 60 days to set up the platform and get it certified.
Valid as long as your licence
For an intermediary, ISNP permission stays valid as long as its IRDAI certificate of registration is valid. For an insurer, it stays valid unless revoked.
Re-apply for intermediary registration by 31 January 2027
Under IRDAI’s 30 July 2026 amendment, existing brokers, corporate agents and web aggregators move to continuous registration. They must apply for a fresh certificate by 31 January 2027.
What happens if your licence lapses
The ISNP falls with it
An intermediary’s ISNP is tied to its certificate of registration. Miss the migration deadline under the 2026 amendment and you must stop operating and apply afresh.
Late migration costs extra
Applications after 31 January 2027 are allowed up to 31 March 2027, with reasons and an additional fee of ₹750.
The fee is non-refundable
The ₹10,000 proposal fee is not returned, and the 60-day set-up clock starts once the proposal is accepted. Have the build ready before you file.
Frequently asked questions
Who can set up an ISNP?
Any insurer or licensed insurance intermediary such as a broker, corporate agent or web aggregator can set up an ISNP, as per IRDAI. Tied agents of a single insurer cannot. The applicant must already hold a valid IRDAI registration, because the ISNP application is made using that licence’s login. If you are starting from scratch, the intermediary licence comes first. We help you plan both steps in the right order.
What is the fee for ISNP registration?
IRDAI charges a non-refundable fee of ₹10,000 plus applicable taxes with the ISNP proposal. IRDAI’s ISNP page lists only this proposal fee. Intermediaries separately pay for their own licence, which under the 2026 amendment means an annual fee of the higher of ₹10,000 or 0.04% of commission and other receipts. Platform build and certification costs are separate. We list every cost before you file.
How long does ISNP approval take?
After IRDAI accepts your proposal, you get 60 days to set up the platform and get it certified by a registered certification body. The overall time depends on how ready your website, app and IT controls are when you apply. We prepare the documents while your developers finish the build, so the 60 days are not wasted.
Do insurers need to re-file products to sell them on an ISNP?
No. According to IRDAI, all existing products can be sold on the platform, and insurers need not re-file them if there is no change in their fundamental characteristics. A product that changes in substance goes through the usual product approval route. For brokers and corporate agents, the products you can sell are those of your partner insurers. We check the product list before you go live.
How long is an ISNP permission valid?
For an intermediary, it is valid for as long as its IRDAI certificate of registration is valid. For an insurer, it stays valid unless IRDAI revokes it. So the real task is keeping the underlying licence alive. Under the July 2026 amendment, existing intermediaries must apply for a fresh continuous registration by 31 January 2027. We track that date for you.
Is ISNP the same as a web aggregator licence?
No. A web aggregator licence lets a company run a comparison website and pass leads to insurers under the 2017 Web Aggregators Regulations. An ISNP is a permission that lets an already licensed insurer or intermediary sell and service policies on its own platform. A registered web aggregator can itself apply for an ISNP. We help you choose the route that fits your business model.
Can a startup apply for an ISNP directly?
Not without an IRDAI licence first. A startup would usually register as a corporate agent, broker or web aggregator, each with its own capital, net worth and qualified-person rules. For example, a direct broker needs ₹75 lakh capital and a web aggregator ₹25 lakh paid-up capital. Once licensed, it applies for the ISNP. We map the right licence to your plan before you incorporate.
What does the 2026 IRDAI amendment change for ISNP holders?
It changes the licence the ISNP rests on. The IRDAI (Insurance Intermediaries) (Amendment) Regulations, 2026, dated 30 July 2026, move brokers, corporate agents and web aggregators to continuous registration with an annual fee. Existing holders must apply for a fresh certificate by 31 January 2027, or up to 31 March 2027 with a ₹750 additional fee. Apply on time and your ISNP carries on without a break.
