What class 11 covers

The official Class 11 heading reads: apparatus and installations for lighting, heating, cooling, steam generating, cooking, drying, ventilating, water supply and sanitary purposes.

The explanatory note lists air-conditioning, ovens other than for laboratory use, stoves, solar thermal collectors, lamps and vehicle lights, bath fittings, toilets, sterilizers, coffee machines, bread-making machines and ice machines. The current edition is NCL 13-2026, in force from 1 January 2026, and the Trade Marks Registry follows it.

What is not in class 11

The WIPO note sends these goods to other classes:

GoodsCorrect class
Electricity generators and air condensersClass 7
Photovoltaic cells (solar panels for electricity)Class 9
Signalling lights, optical and darkroom lampsClass 9
Lamps and heating pads for medical purposesClass 10
Non-electric pressure cookers, griddles and grillsClass 21
Electrically heated clothingClass 25

Here is the catch for solar businesses: collectors that heat water are Class 11, while panels that make electricity are Class 9. A Faridabad installer selling both under one brand needs both classes.

Who usually files in class 11

Making lights

Tips before filing

1

Search the appliance and its neighbours

Run a trademark search in Class 11, and in Classes 7, 9 and 21 if your range touches machines, electronics or cookware.

2

Separate electric from non-electric

An electric cooker with its own heat source goes in Class 11. A non-electric pressure cooker goes in Class 21. Write the goods so the Registry can see which one you sell.

3

List both lighting uses

Making home lights and vehicle lights? Name both, as both sit in Class 11.

4

File before launch

Filing early with our trademark registration team gives you a date that counts in any later dispute.

Frequently asked questions

Is a pressure cooker in Class 11 or Class 21?

A non-electric pressure cooker is in Class 21, as the Class 11 explanatory note excludes cooking utensils without an integrated heat source. Electric cooking appliances with their own heating element fall in Class 11. A brand making both types should file in both classes. We read your product catalogue and confirm the split, so the specification matches what you actually sell.

Are solar panels a Class 11 product?

Only solar thermal collectors, which heat water or air, are Class 11. Photovoltaic cells and panels that generate electricity fall in Class 9. Many solar businesses in India sell both, so they file in Classes 9 and 11. The government fee is charged per class. We check which products you sell and file only the classes that protect them.

Do vehicle headlights go in Class 11 or Class 12?

Lights for vehicles, including headlamps and reflectors, go in Class 11. The Class 12 note excludes lights for automobiles and bicycles even though they are vehicle parts. An auto-lighting brand should therefore file in Class 11 first. If it also sells other parts like bumpers or steering wheels, Class 12 is added. We help you build the right list.

Which class covers geysers and water heaters?

Water heaters fall in Class 11, as the class covers apparatus for heating and water supply. This includes electric geysers and solar water heaters using thermal collectors. Pipes, valves and building fittings may fall elsewhere. We check every product in your range so one application covers your core goods without gaps.

What does a Class 11 trademark cost in government fees?

Form TM-A costs ₹4,500 per class for an individual, startup or small enterprise filing online, and ₹9,000 per class for others. Paper filing is ₹5,000 or ₹10,000. The fee is the same for every class. Our professional fee is extra and quoted before you commit. Send us your brand and product range and we will price it exactly.
