Trademark Class 39: Transport, Packaging, Storage and Travel
Class 39 of the Nice Classification covers transport, packaging and storage of goods, and travel arrangement. Logistics companies, couriers, transporters, warehouses and travel agencies in India usually file their brand in this class.
What class 39 covers
The official class heading reads: “Transport; packaging and storage of goods; travel arrangement.” The explanatory note says it covers moving people, animals or goods by rail, road, water, air or pipeline, and storing goods in warehouses and similar buildings.
It also includes operating transport infrastructure, renting vehicles, packaging, bottling, wrapping and delivery, replenishing vending machines and ATMs, journey and freight information, and distribution of energy, electricity and water. India follows the current Nice edition, NCL 13-2026, in force since 1 January 2026.

What is not in class 39
Some travel and transport services sit in neighbouring classes:
| Item | Where it goes |
|---|---|
| Advertising travel or transport | Class 35 |
| Insurance during transport | Class 36 |
| Vehicle maintenance and repair | Class 37 |
| Guided tours | Class 41 |
| Electronic data storage | Class 42 |
| Hotel room reservation by travel agents | Class 43 |
Here is the catch: a Faridabad transporter that opens a truck workshop is now selling a class 37 service. The transport brand alone will not cover the repair business.
Who usually files in class 39
Logistics and courier firms
Transporters, freight forwarders, courier services and last-mile delivery companies.
Warehouses and packers
Warehousing and cold-storage operators, packers and movers, and contract packaging units.
Travel agencies
Travel agents and tour operators that arrange trips and book tickets.
Tips before filing
Add Class 43 for hotel booking
Hotel reservations by a travel agent fall in Class 43. Most travel businesses need both.
Add Class 41 for guided tours
Guided tours are in Class 41. Arranging a tour and running one are different services. If you run tours, add that class.
Search movement words
Names built on “express”, “cargo” or “logistics” are crowded. Search the IP India register first by word and by sound.
Brand your fleet only after filing
Painting a name on trucks is costly to undo. We suggest filing the trademark application before you brand vehicles and uniforms.
Frequently asked questions
Is a travel agency in trademark class 39?
Yes. Travel arrangement, ticket booking and journey information are class 39 services. Hotel reservations made by a travel agent move to Class 43, and guided tours move to Class 41. A full-service travel agency usually files in class 39 and Class 43 together, and adds Class 41 if it runs tours itself. One application can carry all these classes, with the fee charged per class.
Can one application cover class 39 and class 43 together?
Yes. Section 18(2) of the Trade Marks Act, 1999 allows a single application for several classes, but the government fee is charged for each class. So a brand filed in class 39 and class 43 pays two class fees on one Form TM-A. We will tell you which classes are worth the fee before we file.
Is cloud data storage in class 39?
No. Class 39 covers physical storage of goods in warehouses and similar buildings. Electronic data storage is in Class 42, as the class 39 explanatory note confirms. A warehouse company that also offers an online tracking portal may need Class 42 for the software side, alongside class 39 for storage and transport.
How long does a class 39 registration last?
A registered trademark lasts ten years and can be renewed every ten years after that without limit. Under Section 23(1) of the Trade Marks Act, 1999 the registration counts from the date of application, and Section 25(1) sets the ten-year term. You can renew on Form TM-R up to one year before expiry, and even a missed renewal can be saved within the grace period, so the brand stays yours as long as you keep it alive.
What is the government fee for a class 39 trademark?
The government fee on Form TM-A is ₹4,500 per class for individuals, startups and small enterprises filing online, and ₹9,000 per class for others. Paper filing costs ₹5,000 and ₹10,000 respectively, so online filing is the cheaper route. Each extra class you add is charged at the same rate. Our professional fee is quoted separately before you commit, so you know the full cost before we start.
