MCA V3 Portal: How Company Filings Work
The MCA V3 portal is the Ministry of Corporate Affairs’ online system for company and LLP filings. You log in, fill an e-form, attach documents, sign it with a digital signature, pay the fee and receive a Service Request Number (SRN) to track the filing.
Why it matters
Almost every company event ends up on this portal: incorporation, director changes, annual returns, charges. Knowing how it works saves you from rejected forms and missed dates. If you are setting up a company, private limited company registration runs through it from the name application onwards.
What you need before you file
- A registered user or business user account on the MCA portal.
- A Class 3 digital signature, associated with your profile. See how a digital signature certificate is issued online.
- The company’s CIN or the director’s DIN, which the portal uses to pre-fill details.
- Documents in the size and format the form asks for.
- Payment through the online options on the portal.
Key points
Business users file forms, while registered users can mainly view public information. The PAN in the DSC should match the PAN in the MCA profile; a mismatch is a common reason association fails. After submission, the SRN lets you follow the status, and the ROC may approve, reject or ask for a resubmission.
Common filings include the annual forms (see annual compliance filing), director KYC and change in directors. Some of these also need a resolution filed first.
Common mistakes
- Using an expired or wrongly associated DSC.
- Letting the session time out halfway and losing entries.
- Uploading blurred, oversized or encrypted PDFs.
- Waiting for the last day of the filing window, when fixing errors is difficult.
- Not saving the SRN and payment proof.
FAQs
What is an SRN?
A Service Request Number is generated when a filing is submitted and paid. You use it to track the status of the form.
Do I need a DSC for every filing?
Most forms need a DSC of the authorised signatory. Public viewing of data does not.
Can a professional file on my behalf?
Yes. Many companies use a CA or company secretary, who signs in addition to the company’s director.
