Microfinance Software: A Buyer’s Guide
Choosing microfinance software in India starts with one plain question: how do your loans actually get given and collected? A group loan with a weekly centre meeting is a different job from a monthly EMI loan at a branch counter, and software built for one can be awkward for the other.

Who uses microfinance software
The users are very different. A trust or Section 8 company lending to women’s groups, a regulated NBFC, a small society with a loan book, and a Nidhi all keep similar registers, but each answers to a different law. Societies follow their own State or Multi-State co-operative law, Nidhis follow Section 406 of the Companies Act 2013 and the Nidhi Rules 2014, and NBFCs follow RBI. Before you shortlist anything, ask your CA which rules apply to you, then pick software that can produce the reports that framework needs.
If you are still comparing lender types, the buyer’s guide to loan and society software shows which product suits which lender.
What the core should cover
Strip away the screens and the core is simple. It should open a member, sanction and disburse a loan, build a repayment schedule, take repayments, and show the outstanding on any day. Around that, look for:
- Several branches under one login structure, with account opening and disbursement handled per branch.
- User rights, so a counter clerk cannot do what a branch manager can.
- More than one loan type and more than one deposit type, such as savings, fixed and recurring.
- Printable receipts and agreements that you can change to your own format.
- A holiday calendar, so due dates do not fall on days you are closed.
The Taxhint microfinance software page lists these: multiple branches, user access rights, several loan and deposit types, custom print forms and a holiday calendar with IP binding. It is hosted in the cloud, with an on-premise option listed as well.
The field side
Most of your money moves outside the office. Group lending runs on centre meetings, where an agent sits with a dozen borrowers and collects in cash. Ask how the software treats that meeting: can the agent see the whole centre, mark who paid, and post the total in one go? Our page lists group lending and centre meeting support, plus a collection app, a user app and a member app.
Two companion posts go deeper: JLG and SHG group lending software and the field collection app post. If you also run daily deposit collection, read daily collection and pigmy deposit software.
Checks, reports and integrations
Lending goes wrong at the front door, so look at the verification built in. The page lists Aadhaar and PAN verification, credit score checking and uploading, a bank statement analyser, geo-tagging, QR and payment gateway collection, NACH and e-mandate. It also lists SMS alerts for EMI reminders, user activity logs and statutory compliance reports.
Whatever you choose, test each of these against your own paperwork. Reports must match what your auditor and regulator ask for, and those requirements change, so check the current RBI directions with your CA. The KYC, credit bureau and reports post covers this in more detail.
What to check in a demo
| Ask to see | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| A centre meeting, start to finish | Shows whether group loans are a real feature or a workaround |
| A repayment posted from the field app | Confirms it reaches the branch ledger without re-entry |
| A part payment and a late payment | Real loans are rarely paid on the exact day |
| Your own report format | You will print it every month |
| User rights for a clerk and a manager | Controls who can edit a closed entry |
| Data export | You should be able to take your records away |
Bring ten real borrowers from your register and ask the vendor to enter them. Ten minutes of that tells you more than an hour of slides. On price, our approach is simple: ask us for a quote once you know your branches and users, and see what drives cost in microfinance software cost in India.

FAQs
What is microfinance software?
It is a system that records small loans, group and individual, along with collections, deposits and reports. A good one covers the branch counter and the field agent in one set of books.
Can one software handle group loans and individual loans?
It should, because most lenders run both. Check that the group loan, the centre meeting and the plain monthly EMI loan all post to the same ledger.
Is cloud software safe for a microfinance company?
Cloud hosting means the vendor keeps the servers running and backed up. Ask about user rights, activity logs and IP restrictions, since those decide who can see or change a record.
Does the software replace my compliance work?
No. It prepares the data and reports, but your CA still checks the figures and files what the law requires. Confirm current RBI directions with your CA before you rely on any report.
