Trademark Class 24: Textiles, Fabrics, Bed Linen and Curtains
Trademark class 24 covers textiles and textile substitutes, household linen, and curtains of textile or plastic. Fabric mills, bedsheet and towel brands, and curtain makers usually file here. We search, confirm the class and file Form TM-A online.
What class 24 covers
The class 24 heading in the 13th edition of the Nice Classification reads: “Textiles and substitutes for textiles; household linen; curtains of textile or plastic.”
WIPO’s explanatory note says the class mainly covers fabrics and fabric covers for household use. It includes household linen such as bedspreads, pillow shams and towels of textile, bed linen of paper, sleeping bags and sleeping bag liners, and mosquito nets.
India follows this system. Under Section 7(1) of the Trade Marks Act, 1999, the Registrar classifies goods by the international classification, and under Section 7(2) that decision on class is final.

Who usually files in class 24
Fabric mills and traders
Weavers and fabric traders, from Surat’s synthetic-fabric market to cotton mills across India.

A Panipat exporter of bedsheets and curtains files in class 24; if it adds filled cushions, it needs class 20 too.
Online home brands
Brands selling bed linen and curtains online. Pillows and mattresses add class 20.
Tips before filing
Search class 24 and its neighbours
Run a trademark search in every class you touch, here 24 plus 20, 23 and 25. IP India’s public search takes one class at a time.
Separate fabric from finished clothing
Dress material is class 24; stitched garments and sarees are class 25. Describe each product clearly.
Split bedding between classes 20 and 24
Bedsheets and quilts are class 24, but pillows and mattresses are class 20. Under Section 18(2), one application can cover several classes, with a fee for each class.
Pick your user date with care
State “proposed to be used” or your first-use date, and keep dated invoices to prove it. That date can decide a later dispute.
Frequently asked questions
Is dress material class 24 or class 25?
Unstitched dress material and other fabric sold by the metre are textiles in class 24. Finished clothing, including sarees, is class 25. In practice, a brand selling both fabric and ready garments should file in both classes. One application can carry both, with a fee per class, and we list the goods so each side is protected.
Are bedsheets and pillows in the same class?
No. Bedsheets, pillow covers, quilts and bedspreads are household linen in class 24. Pillows and mattresses are class 20. A bedding brand selling both should file classes 20 and 24 together. One application can cover both, so your brand protects the whole bedroom range, from sheets to pillows, from day one.
Which class covers curtains and blinds?
Curtains of textile or plastic are class 24. Bamboo and bead curtains for decoration are class 20, and indoor window blinds are also class 20 under WIPO’s note. Outdoor textile blinds and awnings sit in class 22. If you sell curtains and blinds, plan for classes 20 and 24, and we will draft each list accordingly.
What is the government fee for a class 24 trademark?
The Form TM-A fee is ₹4,500 per class for individuals, startups and small enterprises filing online, and ₹9,000 per class for others. Paper filing costs ₹5,000 and ₹10,000. Adding class 25 for clothing means one more class fee. We confirm your applicant category first, so you pay the right amount.
Can a fabric trader register a brand in class 24?
Yes. A trader who sells fabric under a brand name can register it in class 24, whether the fabric is woven in-house or bought from mills. The brand must point customers to you. If the examiner objects to similarity or descriptiveness, our trademark objection reply service prepares the answer, and many such objections are cleared at reply stage.
What it costs
Our fee plus the government fee that applies to your case, quoted before you commit. Tell us the situation and we will price it exactly.
