ITR Filing in Ballabgarh

Many Ballabgarh households earn from three places at once: a salary or shop, some rent, and family farmland. The return treats each one differently. We file returns for the year that ended on 31 March 2026 (AY 2026-27) online or from our BK Chowk office, and a belated return can still go in until 31 December 2026. Each form is explained on our main income tax return filing page.

What it is

An income tax return tells the department what you earned in the year, what tax was already deducted or paid, and what refund or balance is due. It goes online through the Income Tax e-filing portal and counts only once e-verified, which must happen within 30 days; Aadhaar OTP is the usual way.

The Income-tax Act, 1961 still governs FY 2025-26, even though the 2025 Act took over from 1 April 2026. Agricultural income is exempt under Section 10(1), but it is not invisible. It still has to be shown in the return, and above ₹5,000 it can raise the rate of tax on your other income.

Who it applies to

Farming families with other income

A household that sells crops from family land at the Ballabgarh grain market and also draws a salary, runs a shop or collects rent.

Shopkeepers and small units

Traders in the old bazaar on presumptive income, and small manufacturers around Sector 58 and 59 who keep full books and file ITR-4 or ITR-3.

Landowners selling or losing land

Families selling a plot as the town spreads, or receiving compensation when land is acquired for a road or a new sector.

Farm income and land sales near Ballabgarh

Agricultural income is added to your other income only to work out the rate. This partial integration applies when agricultural income exceeds ₹5,000 and your other income exceeds the basic exemption limit. The farm income itself stays tax-free, but it can push salary or business income into a higher slab.

Selling farmland raises the bigger questions. Rural agricultural land is not a capital asset, so its sale is outside capital gains. Land inside a municipality, or within a set aerial distance of its limits, is a capital asset:

Population of the municipalityLand counts as urban up to
10,001 to 1 lakh2 km from the limits
1 lakh to 10 lakh6 km
Above 10 lakh8 km

Ballabgarh is governed by the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad, whose population is well above 10 lakh, so the 8 km band is the one to check. In practice, a field a few kilometres beyond the corporation boundary is still urban land for tax. Even then, relief may exist: Section 10(37) for compulsory acquisition, and Section 54B for gains reinvested in new farmland.

How it works

2

Read the AIS line by line

We match every TDS entry, interest credit and property deal in your AIS and Form 26AS with your papers.

3

Separate each income stream

Farm income, salary, rent and business go into their own schedules, and we compute tax under both regimes.

4

File and follow through

You approve the figures, e-verify by Aadhaar OTP, and we track the Section 143(1) intimation and any refund.

Frequently asked questions

Is agricultural income from Ballabgarh land taxable?

No, agricultural income is exempt under Section 10(1), whoever farms the land. It still matters for your return. If it exceeds ₹5,000 and your other income is above the basic exemption limit, it is used to set the rate on that other income. We report it correctly so the exemption is never questioned later.

Do I have to show agricultural income in my ITR?

Yes, you report it even though it is exempt. Up to ₹5,000 it can go in ITR-1; above that, you must file ITR-2, or ITR-3 if you also have business income. Keep the land record and crop sale receipts from the commission agent, since those back up the figure if the department asks.

I sold farmland near Ballabgarh. Is it taxed?

It depends on where the land is. Rural agricultural land is not a capital asset, so there is no capital gains tax. Ballabgarh falls under the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad, so land within 8 km of its limits is treated as urban and taxable. We check the location against the limits and look at relief under Section 54B before you file.

Our land was acquired for a road. Is the compensation taxable?

Usually not, if Section 10(37) applies. Compensation for compulsory acquisition of urban agricultural land is exempt for an individual or HUF when the land was used for farming for two years before the transfer. Interest paid on delayed compensation is taxed differently, so we split the award into its parts before filing anything.

I missed 31 July. Is it too late?

No. You have until 31 December 2026 for a belated return, and audit cases run to 21 November 2026. Expect the Section 234F fee: ₹5,000, cut to ₹1,000 when income is ₹5 lakh or less. Past December, an updated return (ITR-U) stays open until 31 March 2031, but it cannot claim a refund.

My shop is in the old bazaar. Which form do I file?

ITR-4 suits most small shops, provided you declare profit on the presumptive basis of Section 44AD and total income stays within ₹50 lakh. A shopkeeper with agricultural income above ₹5,000, full books or a partnership share files ITR-3 instead. Your GST turnover and the ITR turnover must agree too; when they don’t, a notice tends to follow.

Can I come and sit with you?

Yes, though you don’t have to: most returns are done end to end online, papers by WhatsApp and verification by Aadhaar OTP. Land sales and family farm accounts are easier across a table, so many Ballabgarh clients come once. Our office is at B-363-365, Second Floor, BK Chowk, Faridabad, Haryana 121001, and since it is open 24 hours, after work is fine.

Old regime or new: which is better for me?

We calculate both and show the gap in rupees, as part of our tax planning advice. New is the default regime; thanks to the Section 87A rebate, income up to ₹12 lakh effectively bears no tax. Old can still come out ahead for someone with a big home loan and full 80C, provided the return is filed on time.

Pricing

What it costs

Our fee plus the government fee that applies to your case, quoted before you commit. Tell us the situation and we will price it exactly.

Filing on time costs nothing on the government side. A late return attracts the Section 234F fee; a revised return after 31 December 2026 attracts a Section 234I fee of ₹1,000 (income up to ₹5 lakh) or ₹5,000.
