ITR Filing in Gurugram

For FY 2025-26, salaried taxpayers in Gurugram had until 31 July 2026 to file. If you missed it, a belated return is still open until 31 December 2026, with a late fee. We prepare and file returns for Gurugram employees, consultants and business owners on the Income Tax e-filing portal; our main income tax return filing page covers every ITR form in detail.

What it is

An income tax return reports what you earned in the financial year, the tax already deducted or paid, and any refund or balance due. Returns for FY 2025-26 still fall under the Income-tax Act, 1961. The new Income-tax Act, 2025 starts with tax year 2026-27.

Everything happens on the Income Tax e-filing portal: choose the right form, match it with Form 16, AIS and Form 26AS, file, and e-verify within 30 days. Read our complete income tax return filing service for form-by-form rules. Below are the Gurugram cases we see most.

Gurugram salary situations we handle often

RSUs from a foreign parent

Many Gurugram employees of multinational companies hold shares of a US or European parent. Foreign assets rule out ITR-1, so you file ITR-2 and report the holding in the foreign assets schedule, even if you sold nothing.

HRA at 40%, not 50%

Under the old regime, HRA exemption uses 50% of salary only for the listed metro cities. Gurugram is not on it. So the cap is 40%, while a colleague renting across the border in Delhi gets 50%.

Two Form 16s after a job change

Switching companies mid-year often means both employers gave you the basic exemption and standard deduction. We combine the two and pay any shortfall before filing.

Who it applies to

Salaried employees

Anyone with taxable income above the basic exemption limit of ₹4 lakh under the new regime, or wanting a TDS refund.

Consultants and freelancers

Professionals billing companies in Cyber City or Golf Course Road, often under presumptive taxation in Section 44ADA through ITR-4.

Directors and investors

Company directors and anyone with short-term capital gains cannot use ITR-1; they file ITR-2 or ITR-3.

Why it matters

Refunds of excess TDS

Only a filed and verified return releases a refund, paid to a pre-validated bank account.

Loans and visas

Banks and embassies usually ask for ITR acknowledgements of recent years, for home loans and visas alike.

Carry-forward of losses

Capital losses on shares or mutual funds carry forward only when the return is filed by the due date.

How it works

1

Send us your papers

Share Form 16, AIS and statements by email or WhatsApp. You do not need to visit.

2

Compare old and new regime

We compute tax both ways where the old regime is still open to you and show the difference in rupees.

3

Reconcile with AIS

Every interest, dividend and sale entry in AIS is matched so the return does not draw a mismatch notice.

4

File and e-verify

You approve the draft, we file it, and you e-verify by Aadhaar OTP within 30 days.

What happens if you miss it

Late fee

₹5,000 under Section 234F, or ₹1,000 if total income is up to ₹5 lakh.

Old regime closes

Salaried taxpayers filing after the due date must use the new regime, so HRA and 80C claims are lost.

Losses lapse

Business and capital losses in a belated return cannot be carried forward.

Frequently asked questions

I missed 31 July. Can I still file my ITR in Gurugram?

Yes. A belated return for FY 2025-26 can be filed until 31 December 2026. The late fee under Section 234F is ₹5,000, or ₹1,000 if your total income is up to ₹5 lakh. You must use the new regime, and business or capital losses cannot be carried forward. After 31 December, the only route is an updated return, so filing now saves both money and paperwork.

Is Gurugram a metro city for HRA?

No. Under the old regime, HRA exemption is the lowest of actual HRA, rent minus 10% of salary, and 50% of salary for metro cities or 40% elsewhere. Gurugram counts as “elsewhere”, so the cap is 40%. From tax year 2026-27 the new rules add four cities to the 50% list, and Gurugram is still not one of them. HRA is not available under the new regime at all.

My company gave me RSUs of its US parent. Which ITR do I file?

You file ITR-2, not ITR-1, because ITR-1 cannot be used by anyone holding foreign assets. The value of vested shares is already taxed as salary in Form 16. In the return you also report the shares in the foreign assets schedule, plus any dividends and sale gains. We work from the broker’s vest and sale statements and convert the values into rupees.

Which regime should a Gurugram salaried employee choose?

It depends on your deductions. Under the new regime, the Section 87A rebate up to ₹60,000 makes income up to ₹12 lakh effectively tax-free, and the standard deduction is ₹75,000. The old regime pays off only with large claims, such as HRA on high Gurugram rents, home loan interest and full 80C. We compute both and show you the rupee difference.

Do I need to meet you in person to file my return?

No. Nearly every Gurugram client files with us online: you send documents, we share a draft, and you e-verify with an Aadhaar OTP. If you prefer to meet, our office is at B-363-365, Second Floor, BK Chowk, Faridabad, Haryana 121001. We have one office, in Faridabad. Call +91 93117 95484, which is answered 24 hours, to fix a time.

I switched jobs in the middle of the year. What should I check?

Check whether both employers allowed you the same exemptions. This is common in Gurugram, where people often move between companies in Cyber City and Golf Course Road within a single year. Each one usually gives the standard deduction and computes tax as if it were your only job, so TDS can fall short. In the return we combine both Form 16s, claim the ₹75,000 standard deduction once, and pay any balance as self-assessment tax. That heads off a demand notice.

I freelance for Gurugram companies. Can I use ITR-4?

Yes, if you are a resident with total income up to ₹50 lakh and choose presumptive taxation. Under Section 44ADA you declare 50% of gross professional receipts as income and skip detailed books. If you report a lower profit and your income exceeds the basic exemption limit, you move to ITR-3 with a tax audit. We check the TDS deducted by each client against AIS.

I found a mistake after filing. Can I fix it?

Yes, you can file a revised return for FY 2025-26 until 31 March 2027. A revised return filed after 31 December attracts a fee under Section 234I of ₹1,000 for income up to ₹5 lakh, and ₹5,000 above that. If the deadline passes, an updated return (ITR-U) is possible, but it cannot reduce tax or raise a refund. Most errors are fixed in one filing.
